Fourth graders participate in the Science Theater program, sponsored by Get in the Act in

Get in the Act delivered their innovative Science Theater Program to fourth grade students at Mountain View Elementary School on April 22-23, 2026.

Led by Teaching Artist Diane Handzel, students used dynamic theater techniques as a learning  framework to examine rocks, soil and mineral concepts.

The workshops allow every student to actively participate in hands-on dramatizations that connect learning to their everyday world. As students role-play a variety of characters and the conflicts between them, they dramatize stories that transform science facts into dynamic active explorations.

Get in the Act would like to thank Komatsu Mining Foundation, Nevada Gold Mines, Kinross Nevada, Orla Mining, Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts for supporting Science  Theater at Mountain View Elementary.

“Fun, engaging! Loved Diane's enthusiasm! Even my shyest kids had fun and participated!”                    ---Mrs. Zugazaga, 4th Grade Teacher

“This gets kids engaged, thinking, smiling, listening carefully, animated. Kids continued discussing content even when not actively “performing”.                                                                                              ---Mrs. Scott, 4th Grade Teacher

Also, a special thank you to MVE's Principal, Mrs. Etchemendy, and the 4th Grade classroom teachers for being wonderful and supportive partners.
