On April 9, 2025, representatives from the VFW Post 2350 visited Mountain View Elementary School to present kindergarten teacher Ms. Fei Zhao with the award of Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher for 2024-2025.
Ms. Zhao was given a commemorative plaque, an award certificate, $200 in prize money, and a box full of classroom supplies.
Ms. Zhao was nominated because she is a gifted teacher. Her classroom is a warm, inviting space that enables her students to thrive. She fosters a structured, safe learning environment that encourages curiosity while providing safe boundaries within which students may explore and grow. She encourages her students to reach for their highest potential, and they rise to the challenge, knowing she is there to support their efforts.
In addition to providing an optimal place of learning within her classroom, Ms. Zhao actively contributes to the MVE school community. She attends and supports after school family events, helping to ensure their success. She is an active member of our school’s Nevada Reading Week committee, and has been a chief leader on our campus in rolling out Elko County School District’s initiative to use a program called the Learner Centered Framework. Ms. Zhao’s strong work ethic and positive interactions with students and adults alike add to our school’s culture of diligence and inclusion.
The entire staff at Mountain View Elementary School is thrilled to congratulate Ms. Zhao on receiving this recognition and honor.
