Next Tuesday, November 12, 2024, we will be conducting a Lockdown Drill at 3:20 p.m. at Mountain View Elementary School. A Lockdown is utilized when there is imminent danger on campus.
Teachers have discussed the importance of this drill with students, have practiced what to do with their classes, and will be reviewing procedures prior to the drill.
During the drill, an alarm will sound, emergency lights will flash, and a recorded voice will provide the following information:
Drill! This is a Lockdown drill! We are in a lockdown drill. Lock the classroom door. Maintain silence. Do not open the door. Staff, recover students from the hallway if possible. Turn off the lights. Move away from sight. Maintain silence. Do not open the door. Prepare to evade or defend. Again, this is a lockdown drill.
Students will follow the directions given and stay quiet in classrooms until an an anouncement is given, signaling the end of the drill.
While we hope to never have to do anything other than practice a Lockdown, we want all of our students to know what to do in case of this type of emergency.
We invite families to discuss what will happen during the drill, and reassure their students that practicing for an emergency helps us to stay calm, follow directions, and be as safe as possible. We encourage families to have conversations to reinforce students' understanding of what to do and why, using age-appropriate language.
It is important that students have the opportunity to practice this drill at school with their peers and teacher so they are familiar with what they can do to stay as safe as possible in a Lockdown emergency.
We appreciate the support of our MVE community!
