Our Programs

At Mountain View Elementary, every child has the right to shine. We encourage every student’s optimum growth and academic achievement through a variety of quality programs in a safe, caring environment.

English Language Learners (ELL)

Our English learning students come from various backgrounds with a cornucopia of first languages: Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Twi, Tagalog, Basque, Spanish. Our diverse population of students provides a unique opportunity to create a successful community of learners at Mountain View Elementary. Please learn more about our English learning program on Mrs. Dean’s website.

Home Learning

A child’s brain is like a sponge, constantly soaking up the information around them. That’s why learning doesn’t begin and end with the school bell but continues all day and especially at home. Let us help!

House System

Mountain View Elementary is magical! To help build a nurturing community that empowers, every MVE student has a place in one of the five houses that represent our school values:

  • House of Wisdom (purple)
  • House of Courage (kelly green)
  • House of Friendship (red)
  • House of Kindness (orange)
  • House of Dreams (royal blue)

Inspired by the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, we implemented this amazing program of positivity in 2017,and it has been an immense success.

Students can earn points for their communities/houses by demonstrating positive behaviors. In our classrooms, in our hallways, and on our playgrounds, students help others in need, show respect, use kind words, and generally make great choices. We also hold friendly competitions where students earn points. Competitions and personal point earning culminate every few weeks with a celebration for the winning house.

We give every student a T-shirt of their house color at the beginning of the year.

Magic Engineers

We invite Mountain View Elementary students to join our robotics team, the Magic Engineers. We’ll expand our knowledge, gain friendships, and learn new life skills as we create, reimagine, and collaborate as a team. We will learn coding and robot-building principles and compete with other Elko County SD teams, other Nevada teams, and possibly compete in national challenges.

To become truly “educated,” students must recognize and develop their intellect, their talents, and their aspirations. That’s why we advocate developing the whole person through the additional following special programs at our school:

  • Choir
  • PE
  • Art

Do you have a curious child? Does he/she love to explore? Are you looking for ways to encourage this natural propensity to learn but aren’t sure how to go about it? We’re excited about Mountain View Elementary’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program, where we explore real-word scientific challenges to learn how science, technology, engineering, and math interact with our world.

We invite third and fourth-grade students to take part in the annual STEM fair. Students conduct science and engineering experiments and create presentations to showcase what they learn.
